Independent Bar St. Petersburg
The original Independent Beer Hall may seem like a slick chain drinking establishment on first glance due to its beautifully appointed space and deliberately branded ambiance but the ownership and concept are all local. Owners John and Veronica Vellines built the room and consistently stock the downtown St Pete institution’s selection according to their own standards. John’s ten years spent as a Belgian beer importer is reflected in the mostly European collection of tasty suds, an eclectic collection of favorites and rarities that will satisfy even the most particular beer snobs. This is not the place to walk in and order a Budweiser or a Miller Lite so don’t attempt it, however a few minutes spent talking with the knowledgeable staff will match your tastes to something that may replace your favorite boring domestic lager as your go-to brew. The Independent has been consistently rated as one of the best destinations in St Petersburg for beer gourmands, but that’s not why we love the place. We love it for the great beers, beautiful space, and owners who love and play music.
