MGMT continues their North America tour in support of their release, Congratulations and will make a stop at Ruth Eckerd Hall. Special Guest Kuroma will open the show.
MGMT burst on to the music scene in 2008, with the release of their first album Oracular Spectacular which hit number 1 on Billboard magazine's Heatseekers chart. It was also ranked number 18 best album of the decade by Rolling Stone magazine and the best album of 2008 by NME. Spin magazine named them Artist of the Day. In 2009, the track, Electric Feel (Justice Remix), picked up a Grammy® Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical. Late last year, MGMT was nominated for 2 Grammys®, Best New Artist and the track Kids, was nominated for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals.
This spring they began their tour with two sold-out shows at San Francisco’s legendary Fillmore and dates included Coachella and Glastonbury. This summer the tour will make stops in Los Angeles at The Greek Theatre, Chicago’s Lollapalooza and 2 concerts at Radio City Music Hall in New York, among others. The band will also perform dates across Canada and Europe before heading back to the states this fall.
With the release of Congratulations, MGMT continue to evolve their visionary and groundbreaking style of music. Critics are cheering Congratulations for its sincerity and originality. Spin described the new music as "uncommonly, emotionally honest" while MOJO declared it "the post-punk Brit-psych masterpiece of the year...a reinvention so fully realized" in their 5 star review. MGMT performed selections from Congratulations when they made their debut appearance this spring on Saturday Night Live in April and also returned to perform on The Late Show with David Letterman in May. They recently performed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and are scheduled to perform on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on July 23.
This will be MGMT's first appearance at Ruth Eckerd Hall!
