WMNF Community Radio's 29th Annual TROPICAL HEATWAVE
On May 15th, WMNF's 29th Annual Tropical Heatwave will be upon us. The uber-eclectic event is bringing 46 bands to eight stages this year. WMNF has a long history of bringing new and interesting bands to the Bay area and this year's Heatwave is no exception. The acts range from polka to spoken word to metal to rap to indie to blues to... well you get the point. From local bands to national acts, there's a little something for everyone. This year, Heatwave is adding Crowbar and the The Ybor Room as participating venues. In addition to those, The Orpheum, New World Brewery, El Pasaje Plaza and three stages at The Cuban Club will all host bands simultaneously throughout the night. As usual, Heatwave will feature some up and comers that have never played in Tampa before such as The Ettes, Black Blondie, Boom Box, Luminescent Orchestrii, The Movement, Mark Levine and the Latin Tinge, and Stone River Boys with Dave Gonzalez. Local favorites like Have Gun Will Travel, Sons Of Hippies, The Equines and The Semis will be showing the out-of-towners how we do it in Tampa. Check out the full Reax Insider's Guide for the entire schedule to plan your night accordingly. And don't forget that on 9th Ave. next to El Pasaje Plaza, Heatwave will feature a street fair replete with food, arts & crafts and political activist (though I doubt you'll find any TeaBaggers passing out propaganda here!).
