I knew there was something to this weird Belgian record when I read on the back cover “Buy Vinyl Only Analog Is Real.” Fans of early Amon Duul and drone-drenched cult psych will agree this is the trippiest krautrock released in a long time. The first track: the feedback and spiraling frequencies and foreign vocals can only be described as reciting an archaic occult ritual, like the song they played before sacrificing a pyre of goats. Then, for almost an hour, endless alone in the desert psych, CA Quintet-style noodling that expands and expands, ever offering a new chasm of ghostly cackles to explore. In pictures inside the album, the band wears executioner masks, yet like most bands that flaunt paganism as spiritual inspiration, the music gains additional darkness and terror in context, as if simply by playing the album, necromantic forces will rise. On the band’s website, they describe their music as “funeral folk.” It absolutely describes the ambiance achieved. - Shawn Goldberg
