Back from a three year, self-imposed hiatus, the brothers Brewis (both David and ex-Futurehead? Peter) have dropped Field Music (Measure) on an unsuspecting indie-pop world, all 20 tracks of it. The 3 + years since the bands last proper full length have seen the Brewis' busy with individual solo projects, but it's not like you could tell from the sheer scope of ...(Measure). A remarkably cohesive history lesson in British pop, any given track here contains elements of White Album era Beatles?, Faces?, Queen?, some T.Rex?, early Bowie?, seemly assembled by the hands of Andy Partridge? himself. Like most double albums, this does tend to get a bit long-winded. But even Precious Plans, one of the more heavily orchestrated tracks found way into the last quarter of the album, still had enough stream to carry this listener through. One of the better balances between 70's era Brit Pop and indie rock, Field Music (Measure) is a worthy lesson to fans of either, or both, genres.
