After nearly putting the whole band's life on the line, by attempting to give an interview while the person on the other end was driving blindly through Central Florida, the phone was handed to one of their singers, Vashti.
REAX: What is your name and what do you do in Golden Triangle?
Golden Triangle: My name is Vashti, and I'm one of the singers in the band.
REAX: Nice to meet you, unofficially.
Golden Triangle: Yes. Nice to meet you too!
REAX: Where does the name Golden Triangle come from? Is it symbolic, like McDonald's golden arches?
Golden Triangle: Haha. Well, not really. It's an area of commerce that makes A LOT of money. They make a lot of money by building a lot of junk. It's also a name our old drummer came up with in a train, and it's also an area of Texas that our other singer, Carly grew up in. Kind of like the Bermuda Triangle of the USA. We're from all over the place so it has slightly different meaning to each of us.
REAX: Wow, I wasn't expecting all of that. Much more elaborate than I had expected. Let's talk about the new record.
Golden Triangle: Let's do it!
REAX: You recorded the new record Double Jointer with Chris Coady, who is known for working with the likes of Yeah Yeah Yeah's, Blonde Redhead, and Beach House, to name a few.
Golden Triangle: Yeah, he's an awesome guy and a good friend.
REAX: How did the recording sessions go? Did working with a name like that drastically change the music you had ready for this record?
Golden Triangle: Yeah, definitely! I think by listening to this record and comparing it to the first record, it's pretty obvious. The production quality is way better and there is a lot more going on. He's really good at pushing us to do more with a song, or a part. We didn't really have any of that with the first record, it was just like we recorded the song and that was that. Or we'd just do it over 5 times and then it was finished.
REAX: Yeah, the record sounds amazing. Obviously a BIG difference in the sound, but it's also not too polished. I like it.
Golden Triangle: Well, thank you. We worked really hard on it.
REAX: Let's talk about the other members, there are 3 boys and 3 girls in the band, correct?
Golden Triangle: Yes, that is correct.
REAX: Do you find that having 2 female singers, makes most people assume that you are a girl group?
Golden Triangle: Yeah, sometimes... which is pretty frustrating. Obviously we're not an all girl group. But it happens a lot I guess. I like to think that we are equal parts, because well.. there are 3 boys and 3 girls. And our guitar player, OJ likes to sing sometimes as well,so we can't be a "girl group" anyway.
REAX: Does Golden Triangle have what you might call the "band Dad" or "band Mom"? Who is in charge here? There's always at least one responsible member.
Golden Triangle: Oh god, yeah I guess we do..that would be me. Hahaha.. i can't help it! SOMEBODY has got to be responsible for these people. I like to think I'm decent at taking care of business, so yeah it's definitely me.
REAX: So being the band Mom, who in the band gets into trouble the most in the group?
Golden Triangle: Oh, Alix of course! She is the band's troublemaker for sure.
REAX: I have actually heard that before. More than once. What kind of trouble has she been stirring up on this tour? Or maybe you can tell me something amazing she has done or combine the two?
Golden Triangle: Something crazy and amazing? There was one show recently where this dude kept bumping into us constantly, and knocking us around a bit too much and Alix is pretty short and small, but, she stepped back and slugged this guy and knocked him on his ass in one shot. THAT was pretty amazing, in my book. He was so wasted, so he just kinda got up and shook his head in amazement that a tiny girl just knocked his ass out. No bar brawls or anything.
REAX: The New Yorkers that I know personally, seem to have atleast 3 projects going for them at all times. What are some other bands that you guys are in right now?
Golden Triangle: Oh yeah, definitely! Carly and OJ are in a band called X-RAY Eyeballs, and Alix is in a band called Heavenly Blows. And I play in a band called K-Holes as well. We're all pretty involved with music at home. X-Ray Eyeballs has a 7" out on Hozac soon, and then K-Holes have an LP coming out on Hozac next year, too. Look out for that stuff.
REAX: Rad.I will keep my eyes peeled. So what's next for Golden Triangle? Any big plans for the near future?
Golden Triangle:: Get home safe and play a shit-ton of shows. We have a tour coming up with the Crocodiles kinda soon. So we've got that to look forward to.
REAX: Well Vashti, I thank you very much for your time. Have a safe drive in and good luck with the show. I will be sure to say hello.
Golden Triangle: Yeah, totally. Do that! And thanks so much for having us. Byeee!
