Cory Branan is best described as a modern troubadour. He lives for the music he plays, and his fans, so he is willing to forgo the comforts of home to tour constantly. Having just arrived home from the Budget Helicopter Tour with Drag the River which lasted 4 months and spanned both the U.S. and Europe, Cory embarked on a 3-week tour of the U.S. as support for Dashboard Confessional.

Cory’s set at the Social last night was short and to the point. With only about 30 minutes allotted for him to play, he made the most of the time, carefully balancing his amazing songs and trademark wit/story telling. Back in August I spent two days in Chicago with Cory and Drag and at some point I suggested that Mr. Branan play “Too drunk to f*ck” by the Dead Kennedy’s since he is a fan. We laughed at how odd the cover would be considering his usual song writing style. He said he would learn it though. Low and behold, last night as suggested, Cory played the D.K. cover as promised. I am including a link to video of this first (and possibly only ever) performance of “Too drunk….”

Cory managed to win over the crowd at Social though they were undoubtedly there to see “heart throb” Chris Carrabba. Maybe Cory Branan will finally receive the recognition that he deserves.
