Bat For Lashes, Dandy Warhols, Jesu To Appear On Cure Tribute
A tribute album is a convenient way for an indie label to expose their roster to new listeners by piggybacking on the proven success of an established artist. Many a music fan has been left with a bad taste for these projects thanks to the blatantly exploitative practices of labels such as Cleopatra, who in the late '90s and early '00s were cranking out A Gothic Industrial Tribute To The Smashing Pumpkins and Vitamin, who loaded up record store bins with a long line of String Quartet tributes including this one for The Roots.
Contrary to this rule is the benefit tribute, whose content is usually of a higher caliber and features artists who can stand on their own.
