Mema's Alaskan Tacos
This Ybor City staple food has been filling the bellies of partiers, artists and other denizens of Tampa’s premiere Historical District for more than a half a decade. Originally a small stand on the outskirts of the main drag, Mema’s now occupies a location that offers full seating in a kitchy and fun environment with a good selection of beers and imported sodas to wash down your “Alaskan style” tacos. What’s an Alaskan taco? For a more descriptive answer you would have to ask owner Sean Godin, who adapted the recipe from his grandmother while working on a fishing rig in Alaska. We call it tasty. With extended hours, Mema’s is both a great place to stop for lunch and for a late night nosh to sober up before driving/cabbing/hitching home from an evening of enjoying Ybor’s nightlife.
